Christopher D. Orr, 1987. Rebuilt for the phone from the
original level data.
Six and a half acres, a party tonight, and a mower with ten hits in it.
Cut every blade of grass and drive back to the shed. The faster you
finish, the more you get paid.
▒ grass: cut it
░ water: fatal
Φ shrub: costs a hit
♦ hole: heavy damage
☺ gopher: fatal
Ö dog: fatal, lawn 3+
Ten hits and the blades stop cutting, so drive back to the shed
for new ones. Fourteen and the mower can give out at any moment.
Every hit adds five seconds to your time.
Levels extracted from the original BSAVE screen dumps.
Rules recovered from Lawn.exe (MS BASIC Compiler 5.60, June 1987).
How it works
Every blade has to go. Drive over the grass to cut it, and the lawn is
only finished when you have taken the mower back to the shed you started
from.
Hitting anything solid (a shrub, a bench, the mailbox)
stops the mower dead, costs a hit and adds five seconds to your clock.
After ten hits the blades stop cutting altogether and
the only fix is a trip back to the shed. Past fourteen the mower can give
out under you at any moment. Water, the gopher and the dog end a mower on
contact.
The gopher surfaces at random, eats grass and leaves holes in work you
have already done. From the third lawn next door's dog joins in, and he
gets keener every lawn. Pay falls the longer you take, so there is a real
reason to hurry, and a real cost to hurrying.
A rebuild of Lawn Mower, written by
Christopher D. Orr in June 1987 and drawn entirely in text characters.
The five lawns here are his, extracted from the game's own screen dumps;
the rules were recovered from the compiled BASIC. Dedicated, as the
original was, to his Linda.
Paused
The clock is stopped, exactly as [ESC] did in the original.
Lawn finished
Mower returned to the shed. He’s given you a fresh one.
